Debra June Haugen, 55, passed away peacefully at her home Friday, April 1, 2011, surrounded by her family after a 17 month courageous journey with ovarian cancer.
Deb was born December 25, 1955, in Eau Claire, WI, to Harold and June (Harsh) Rosentrater. She grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Altoona (WI) High School (1974) and Winona (MN) State University (1978) with a Bachelor of Science of Nursing. She married her grade-school sweetheart, Patrick Haugen, on July 29, 1978.
She had a profound joy for ministering to many through her job as a Parish Nurse for 18 years and home church congregation of St. James/Faith Lutheran Church. The highlight of her professional life was planning and participating in women's spiritual retreats. She was an amazing women and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Family was the cornerstone of her life, serving as a dedicated and unselfish wife, mom, gamma, daughter, sister, aunt, and godmother. She loved to spend time gardening, traveling, reading, and watching Sprout with Maddie.
Deb is survived by her loving husband, Pat of Aurora, IL; daughter, Heather (Ryan) Theel of Clinton, MS; sons, Nathan (Tania Hernandez) of Minneapolis, MN, and Russell (Kelly) of Aurora; granddaughter, Madison Debra; parents, June and Harold Rosentrater; sisters, Diane (Jeff) Stone family, and Denice (Ken) Russell family; brother, Harold (Nancy) Rosentrater family; and a host of earthly angels of friends and family.
Pat, Heather, Nate, and Russ wish to thank all their family and friends for their outpouring of love and support over the last 17 months, and a special thank you to Dr. Jim Dolan, Dr. Tim Lestingi and Rainbow Hospice for their compassionate care and guidance.
A visitation will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Aurora, IL. Her final retreat - a celebration of life service is planned for Friday, April 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Debra J. Haugen Parish Nurse Tribute Fund c/o Advocate Charitable Foundation, 205 W. Touhy Ave., Suite 225, Park Ridge, IL 60068, or Faith Lutheran Church - Eternity Garden Memorial Fund.
