Wife of Eduard Rosentreter. Died by a lightning strike.
The following appears on page 27 of LANDSMANN No. 26 -
"On [2 Jun 1875] WILHELM and WILHELMINA Ostermeier were in the process of putting up a barn on their farmplace.
While going to Crete for more supplies, a vicious storm suddently came up. Entering town from the west, they quickly
went to the home of their friends, Mr. and . Eduard Rosentreter, who lived on Benton Street, just south of Exchange
Street. As the men were securing and calming the horses in the barn, hail stones broke some of the windows in the house.
As . Rosentreter and WILHELMINA were stuffing a window with paper, lightning struck, killing them both instantly.
The story of this tragedy, which has been passed down through the ages, was told by the late Ray Piepnbrink to his son,
Tim, and to his [Ray's] cousin, Harry Piepenbrink."
[Ray Piepenbrink's mother (Bertha Haemker) was a granddaughter of WILHELM and WILHELMINA Ostermeier. They
were also the grandparents of Harry Piepenbrink's uncle, Theodore Haemker. Bertha and Theodore were sister and
brother.]
