BRADY - Harold L. Blede, 84, died March 5, 1998, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg. He was born Oct. 11, 1913, on the Blede farm south of Brady to Henning F. and Elise Amelia Larson Blede. He was a 1932 graduate of Brady High School, where he held the record for the 440-yard dash for 30 years. On June 21, 1936, he married Goldie R. Rosentrater at Brady, where they made their lifetime home. She preceded him in death on April 19, 1995. Mr. Blede was a farmer and cattleman all his life. He had been a prominent figure in the Brady community, where he had been a longtime school board member and served as its president. He was a member of the Brady United Methodist Church more than 50 years. He instigated the development of the Brady Rural Fire District and served on the board for many years. He was originator of the Brady 4-H Achievement Days in 1961, which is still Brady's annual celebration called Brady Days. A charter member of the Brady Lions Club, he had served in all local and zone offices of the Lions Club and was district governor of Nebraska 38N Lions. He served as a 4-H leader, Boy Scout Master and he was a past member of the Lincoln County Wildlife and Brady Gun Club. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Brady Ducks Unlimited and Farm Bureau and chairman of the Buffalo Bill Visually Impaired Peer Group. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. Survivors include a son, Raymond (Carol) of Brady; a sister Doris (Roland) Gibbs of Buckner, Mo.; a brother, Harlan of Overbrook, Kan.; two granddaughters, Tyra Blede of North Platte and Tracey (Mike) Porter of Brady; a grandson, Todd (Denise) Blede of Cozad; and six great grandchildren, Corbin, Lincoln and Chloe Blede and Ryan, Christopher and Dayne Porter. He was also preceded in death by a son, Harold, Jr.; and his parents. Memorials may be given to the Brady United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church in Brady with the Rev. Ron Harris officiating. Burial will be in Gothenburg Cemetery. (North Platte Telegraph)
