- Obituary:
One of the saddest occurrences that has taken place in this city for many months, was the sudden death on Friday evening about 6 o'clock, of . Antone Schmitz at her home on South Broad Street (Carlinville, Illinois). While sitting at the supper table surrounded by her family, in apparently the very best of health, she suddenly fell from the cair and expired almost instantly. Two physicians were hastily summoned and they worked heroically to revive her, but without avail: She had passed beyond all human aid. The death of a loved one is a shock even when this event is expected. But when it comes as did the passing of . Schmitz, so sudden, without a moments warning; it is more than a shock, it is a tragedy. . Schmitz was aged 42 years.
Frances Rosentreter Schmitz was the daughter of Mr. and . Andrew Rosentreter, and was born August 28, 1873 in Damrau, East Prussia, Germany. When nine years of age, she came with her parents to America. The family settled south of Carlinville. This city and vicinity has been the home of the decesed since her coming to this country.
February 12, 1895, she was united in marriage ith Anton Schmitz at St. Joseph's church in Carlinville. To this union were born the following childred: Elizabeth, Alex, Alfred and Margaret Schmitz. The eldest son, Alex., has for several years been an employee of the Democrat office. These children and the husband survive her. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: . Mary Gerlach, . Anna Napeonteck, Milwaukee, Wis; . F. Link, Quincy; August Resentreter, San Bernadino, Cal; Joseph and Andrew Rosentreter, Kansas city, MO, and Paul Rosentreter of Ironton, MO.
. Schmitz was a devoted christian wife and mother. She was always active in church work and her faithfulness in this behalf is attested by her many friends. In her home she passed golden days of self-sacrifice in training her sons and daughters in the path of usefulness and right living. And to her sorrowing husband and children this will be a sacred memory in the years to come. the family and friends have the sincere sympathy of the community in their sorrow.
Funeral serverces were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Joseph's church, of which the deceased was a member. The Pastor, Rev. Father Michael, officiated. There was a large congregation in attendance at the last rites. There were many beautiful floral offerings.
The pallbearers were the following: Adam Schefer, Adam Ross, Joe Watermeier, Henry Hesseldenz, Frank Schultz, and August Pockryzski. Interment was in the [Carlinville] Catholic cemetery. All of the brothers and sisters were present at the funeral excepting August and Andrew Rosentreter, who were unable to attend.

For the many, many acts of kindness and sympathy extended to us during our recent great bereavement, the loss of our wife and mother, we extend to our friends our heartfelt thanks.
