Fairview resident James Merle Rosentrater, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 20, at his home.
A public memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, 2530 S.E. 89th Ave., Portland.
James was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Tabor, Iowa, to Fred and Mildred (Cosgrove) Rosentrater. He graduated from Colorado Springs Bible College, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in religion and a Bachelor of Theology degree.
On July 18, 1946, he married Jeanne Beckner in Bremerton, Wash.
He first worked as an electrician for the U.S. Corps of Engineers and later hung sheetrock. In 1958, he was a Wesleyan Minister for one year in Pueblo, Colo., then from 1959-62 in Southwick, Idaho. He was a pastor from 1962-87 in Hermiston and from 1987-93 at the Westwood Wesleyan Church in Seattle.
The Rev. Rosentrater had lived in the Portland area since 1993 and assisted with churches in the area as a pastor.
Survivors include his sons, Kenneth James Rosentrater of Anchorage, Alaska, Keith John Rosentrater of Salem and Karl Joseph Rosentrater of Beaverton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
